Jacques Saadé, Founder and Chairman of CMA CGM was named Seatrade Personality 2007

Monday 21 May 2007, Guildhall, London

French shipowner Jacques Saadé was named Seatrade Personality 2007 for having progressively built up his CMA CGM Group into the world’s third largest container shipping company, correctly foreseeing the onset of globalisation and the growth of container trade from China in particular.

David Dingle presented the awards at the 19th Seatrade Awards Ceremony Dinner last night. Over 350 members of the maritime community gathered in London’s spectacular Guildhall to celebrate and commend the outstanding achievements of the last year.

In presenting the awards, David Dingle said “The Seatrade Awards are both prestigious and worthwhile … They touch upon some of the greatest challenges faced by our industry.”

In honouring the winners of the Seatrade Awards the chairman of the judges IMO Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos said “From IMO’s point of view, it has been rewarding to see the efforts that all the applicants for the Seatrade Awards have put into the preparations of their submissions and how they have focused on developing technological solutions that relate to issues at the very top of today’s maritime agenda.”

The Seatrade Awards programme was introduced to highlight and recognise the industry’s efforts in improving maritime standards, and to award those at the forefront of new thinking. The independent judging panel, chaired by Efthimios Mitropoulos, Secretary-General of the IMO, selected the winners of the 2007 Seatrade Awards, which are as follows:

The Seatrade Awards are firmly established as the leading programme for recognition of achievement and innovation within the international maritime community. Promoting excellence and improvements in maritime standards, and rewarding companies whose products help to save lives and protect the environment.

Seatrade are delighted to announce that David Dingle, President of The Chamber of Shipping, and Chairman, European Cruise Council will be Guest of Honour at the 19th annual Seatrade Awards Ceremony Dinner on Monday 21st May.

Over 400 members of the maritime community will gather in London’s spectacular Guildhall to celebrate and commend the outstanding achievements of the last year. David Dingle will present the Seatrade Awards in the following categories:

The evening will commence with a pre-dinner reception sponsored by Det Norske Veritas, followed by the ceremony dinner (menu & seating plan sponsored by Rolls-Royce), at which the Seatrade Awards are presented. The independent panel of judges of the Seatrade Awards – under the chairmanship of IMO’s Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos – will select the winners just hours before the Awards Ceremony Dinner, where the results will be revealed. The recipient of the Seatrade Personality Award for 2007, chosen by Seatrade, will also be announced. After dinner drinks will bring the evening to a close.

In keeping with the non-profit making motives of the Seatrade Awards programme, a donation will be made from the proceeds to the Mission to Seafarers and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Announcing the Seatrade Awards 2007 Shortlist An independent judging panel has selected the 12 finalists from this year’s entries for the Seatrade Awards.

The Guest of Honour will present the 19th annual Seatrade Awards at the Ceremony Dinner, which takes place on 21 May 2007, at London’s Guildhall.

The independent panel of judges for the Seatrade Awards - under the chairmanship of IMO’s Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos – will select the winners just hours before the Awards Ceremony Dinner, where the results will be revealed. The recipients of the Seatrade Personality Award and the Seatrade Cruise Personality Award for 2007, chosen by Seatrade, will also be announced.

Announcing the panel of judges
for the 2007 Seatrade Awards

Seatrade is delighted to announce the esteemed panel of judges for the 2007 Seatrade Awards who will be selecting the winners in four categories; Safety at Sea, Protection of the Marine & Atmospheric Environment, Innovation in Ship Operations and New IT Applications for the Shipping Industry.

The independent panel of judges will be chaired by:

Winning a prestigious Seatrade Award is an excellent way to promote a company’s profile. All short-listed entrants win the right to use the Seatrade Awards logo on their stationary and publicity material. The Seatrade Awards are free to enter and there are no restrictions on the number of entries submitted per company. The deadline for all entries is 29 December 2006.

Enter the 2007 Seatrade Awards

The search is now on for contenders for a Seatrade Award 2007

The Seatrade Awards scheme offers an unrivalled opportunity to bring a new product, service, system or concept before a uniquely independent judging panel to attain recognition.

This internationally acclaimed scheme has been recognising and rewarding innovation and success in the maritime industry since 1989. There are four prestigious Awards to be won: Safety at Sea, Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment, Innovation in Ship Operations and New IT Applications for the Shipping Industry.

An independent judging panel assesses all entries and compiles a short-list. The finalists are then notified before the judges make the final selection on the day of the Seatrade Awards Ceremony Dinner. The winners of each category will be presented with a unique, hand-crafted trophy in the magnificent surroundings of London’s Guildhall on Monday 14th May 2007, where over 400 guests from the shipping world will applaud the finalists and enjoy a spectacular night out.

Two additional awards will also be presented, the Seatrade Personality 2007 for an outstanding personal contribution to the shipping industry and Seatrade Cruise Personality 2007 (in conjunction with Seatrade Insider at www.cruise-community.com) presented to an individual for a significant contribution to the development of the cruise industry. Nominations are submitted by the international business community and the winners are chosen by Seatrade.

The Seatrade Awards are free to enter, and there are no restrictions on the number of entries you can submit. The deadline is 29 December 2006.
