The Second-hand market
Having already spent three years at HMS “Conway” Naval College, John made his first trip to sea at age sixteen.
He spent 14 years at sea, principally with P&O Lines, where he sailed as Chief Officer and in 11 major passenger ships. During this time he obtained UK Master Mariner and Extra Master Mariner Certificates and attended Wharton Graduate business school in the USA where he was awarded an MBA with a concentration in Transportation.
On leaving Wharton, John spent five years at PriewaterhouseCoopers as a management consultant, eventually heading the firm’s specialist Transportation Practice. Engagements included economic studies for many ports, container terminals, shipping companies, railroads and airlines
Later he spent 15 years at Cunard Line where he served as Senior Vice President and as a member of the Board of Directors. Highlights included assisting in the acquisition of the liners “Sagafjord” and “Vistafjord” and the “Sea Goddess” twins.
He has served as President of Cruise Ventures Inc based in USA since 1992. The company specialises in brokering the sale, purchase and chartering of cruise ships, ship valuation studies, and cruise project start-up consulting. He also occasionally serves as an ‘expert witness’ in cruise related lawsuits.
