Seeking innovative solutions from around the world

A message from Efthimios Mitropoulos, Secretary-General of IMO, and Chairman of the Seatrade Awards Judging Panel.

“It is always important to celebrate excellence in shipping and, as Chairman of the judging panel for the Seatrade Awards, I am delighted to be associated with an initiative which does exactly that.

Shipping continues to reign unchallenged as the world’s most efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to transport goods and materials in quantities by far exceeding those of all the other means of transportation put together, and we need to do all we can to recognize, reward and promote quality whenever and wherever it is found within the industry.

This internationally recognized scheme, which is now celebrating its 20th year, rewards four categories: Safety At Sea, Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment, Innovation in Shipping and Investment in People.

As all of these are directly related to the goals and objectives of IMO, i.e. safe, secure and efficient shipping on clean oceans, they carry considerable international importance and significance.

I would, therefore, urge you to consider entering this independently judged awards scheme for the maritime industry, which is seeking innovative solutions from around the world.

Efthimios Mitropoulos,
Secretary-General, International Maritime Organization
