Singapore box throughput grows 4.2% in September

The port of Singapore registered stronger box throughput in September over the corresponding period of last year, but volumes were down month-on-month, according to data from Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Singapore, the world's second busiest container port behind China's Shanghai, recorded 2.72m of throughput in September, an increase of 4.2% compared to 2.61m teu moved in September 2012.

Last month's volumes, however, were down 3.5% from 2.82m teu handled in August this year, MPA figures showed.

In the first nine months of this year, Singapore port handled a total throughput of 24.3m teu, down 2.3% compared to 23.76m teu in the same period of last year.
